| Looks like we made it through the first month on the New Year and a lot has been done. From repairs to the lodge to a new concrete entrance in the parking lot. Elks membership came together to tackle any task at hand. I thank each and everyone of you who have helped make this lodge functional and operational. We have a new bar manager, Patrick Gutierrez, who has volunteered to take this task on. I want to personally thank Patrick for stepping up to the plate to manage this "not so easy" job. We need to all show our appreciation to Patrick. So next time you see him give him praise that he is doing a good job. And we can't forget to give our bartenders a shout out for a job well done! The Northeast District Hoop Shoot was held in Santa Fe, January 21st. We are very proud of our shooters from Las Vegas. There were six participants in all from Las Vegas out of the sixteen shooters of the Northeast District. Steven Lovato won first place which means he will advance to the State Hoop Shoot in Rio Rancho on February 19. Expenses for sending children and their parents to State Competition are paid by the New Mexico Elks Association. Winners at state will go to the National Competition with the National Winners having their names placed in the National Basketball Hall of Fame. Expenses for sending children and their parents are also taken care of by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. The Las Vegas Lodge is proud that one out of six from Las Vegas is going on to the State Competition and we wish him well. Go Steven! Happy Birthday to our members that were born in the month of January. The birthday party was held on the 21st and was a fun time as usual. Looking forward to the next one in February. I would like to welcome our new members to the lodge and our brotherhood and sisterhood. We initiated five new members on January 24th. They are: Paul Cordova, Maryann Baca, Teresa Lucero, Jennifer Lucero-Berged, and Cliff Pekoc. I want everybody to welcome them to our great lodge. Congratulations to our new members. I would like to encourage our membership to come and participate in lodge functions and parties. We need everybody's help in making this a successful lodge. Even if it is once or twice a month. Thanks to the Membership that do participate. You have kept this lodge going. You know who you are. Thank you! The Super Bowl is coming up! We always throw a memorable Super Bowl bash at the Lodge.
